   [06 August 2008] Help Required for Derby Show - 17th August 2008
Helpers will be required to assist at the Derby Show on August 17th 2008.  Could anyone willing to spare even a couple of hours please get in touch with Edwina at edwina.c@btinternet.com.  Even if you plan to compete in some classes, perhaps you could assist for a short time before and after.  Without valued members support, events are impossible to organise, so we are looking forward to a good response.

   [06 August 2008] Congratulations Jack and Irene!
Renfrewshire Riding Club would like to congratulate Jack Shand and Irene Sheriff who, after 11 years together, are shortly to tie the knot at Ingliston Equestrian Centre's first wedding.  Hope you both have a great day!

   [02 July 2008] RRC Highland Show Visit 21 June 2008

Members, and their friends and families, had a great day out at the Royal Highland Show on 21st June this year, taking advantage of the bus service organised by the club, allowing us all to indulge in the odd glass of wine over lunch, as well as maximising those shopping opportunities!

Thanks to Nicola Eccleson for organising a great day out!

   [02 June 2008] CONGRATULATIONS!!!

To the Renfrewshire Riding Club junior hunter trials team, who came third in the Festival of the Hunter at Northants at the weekend.

Miriam Brackenridge on Larry                           Toto Gray on Angel                                          Katy Pearson on Spring                               Hannah Watson on Nickel

Hannah also took individual first place!

The team qualified for the festival of the hunter back in October of last year, and fundraised to enable them to attend the event.  They were the furthest travelled team of the 19 competing, and the only from Scotland.

Photos, and more information will be posted shorlty!

   [22 April 2007] Team News 2008

As you may know, all affiliated British Riding Clubs are encouraged to participate in Area Competitions. Many of these are qualifiers for BRC Finals which are usually held down South. If we qualify, we are expected to attend, if possible.

RRC has a superb record, sending teams to compete in all disciplines at all levels, junior and senior. Many of our teams have had considerable success. Team events are a great opportunity to meet other members and have a bit of fun and we would like to encourage as many people as possible to put themselves forward for teams.

Entry to these events is expensive as a fee has to be paid to Stoneleigh as well as the host Riding Club. If teams then travel to finals, extra costs are incurred and we are committed to helping to raise funds for this.

Currently we have a junior team qualified for the Festival of the Hunter in Aston Le walls, Northants, on 1st June 2008.  We will soon be looking for people for show jumping teams for the Ingliston Grand Slam on March 28th. Team members are offered subsidised training before their event.

To help meet the considerable costs of team competitions and in order to confirm your commitment to taking part in team events, from March, we will be asking all team members for a contribution of £10 towards entry fees. RRC will meet the rest of the cost of entry (in most cases this means the subsidy will be over 50% of the entry fee).

We feel this offers excellent value for money and hope that we will see some new faces in our teams, as well as our regular participants.

Please contact Linzi (linzimc@hotmail.com) if you would like more information.

   [06 January 2007] Schooling - Booking Process

A couple of months into the post, and I am still hoping it will become a little more straightforward soon!  Thanks to all members who have taken part in recent schooling sessions, we have been pleased to fill all spaces despite several runners and riders currently being out of commission.

The theory for organising future sessions will now be as follows,

  • I will email/text/post each new schooling schedule (generally quarterly), then;
  • Email/text/phone approx. 1 week before each session as a reminder, then;
  • Notify everyone of their times approx. 3 days beforehand

I am often still trying to fill spaces 1 or 2 days before the session, your help and advance booking is really appreciated.

If anyone would like to contact me, please use either my email ( caroline@woodboyle.co.uk ) or personal mobile number to text/call 07751 100806.

I would ask that you still forward cheques in advance of the date and please state preferred times at the time of booking.  There are instances where I am able to confirm times at the time of booking, for example for the 6pm slots (which are usually difficult to fill).  As much flexibility as possible would be appreciated.  The 7pm slot is always the most popular, but there are only four places available.

Thanks again to everyone who has taken part recently; I am grateful for any comments or suggestions

Caroline Boyle

   [06 January 2007] Insurance Issues

The issue of insurance was raised at the AGM. Jane Egan has been looking into insurance issues on behalf of the committee. It is important to be aware that the third party liability insurance that is often offered as an “add-on” to your normal horse policy for veterinary fees is frequently insufficient.  Although amounts like £1million or £2million seem like a lot in the event that your horse was involved in an accident that killed or badly injured someone these amounts are likely to be insufficient.

Obviously RRC can’t give you advice about insurance but the policy that currently comes as part of BHS Gold Membership includes:

  • Personal Liability Insurance Cover for all the horses you own, look after and ride regardless of age. Up to £10 million for any one claim and no excess on claims and cover when riding someone else’s horse with their permission. (Terms, conditions and territorial limits apply)
  • Personal Accident insurance cover (Terms, conditions and territorial limits apply)

For around £50 per year this seems like good value for money and of course includes other BHS membership benefits such as magazines, discounts and expert advice. You can find out more at www.bhs.org.uk.
