Summer Team Qualifiers

We had a fantastic weekend at the Summer Qualifiers and everyone enjoyed the weekend. Saturday was dressage day, Sharon &Lincoln competed in Prelim 12 and did a lovely test scoring 184 and placing an individual 7th in class. Emma & Michael also rode a really nice test in Prelim 13 scoring 168 and also placed 7th in the individual section of the class. The partnerships of Ashleigh & Stella, and Susy & Joey scored well and they enjoyed the day. We realised for next year that we had not allowed enough time to get organised, getting numbers and hats tagged and getting everyone organised left us a bit short on time for warm up for those who were first to compete – so we live and learn – next year we will arrive earlier. Huge thank you to Robin and Reece who were RRC’s helpers for Saturday.

Sunday was team showjumping our Junior team was the partnerships of Nicola & Echo, Melissa & Ursula and Anna & Gift, and our Senior Team was Reba & Monty, Melanie & Zara, Caitlin & Flynn and Mhairi & Bee. The Juniors were up first and were all jumping really well, Nicola & Echo were 1st in the individual scoring after 2 super rounds, and Melissa & Ursula close at their heels taking 2nd place in the individuals, and Anna & Gift also had a super 2 rounds placing 4th in the individuals – Our Junior team were first in the class and qualified for the Championships! So fantastic result for the Juniors! Well done to you all! Our Senior Team had a great day and jumped really well. We saw some super rounds from our Senior team who have some lovely horse and rider partnerships. Many thanks to Jackie and Kirsten who were the RRC helpers on the Sunday, and to Carolyn who filled in to give relief to the helpers. Also a huge thank you to Nina who organised the teams, which took a lot of hard work behind the scenes. Well done to all our team members, thank you for competing on behalf of Renfrewshire Riding Club – you all did us proud, and we know everyone enjoyed the weekend.

History
Blair has run three-day events since 1989, beginning with a National (CCN) two-star, then adding an International (CCI) two-star in 1991. In 1998, the event ran both a CCI* and CCI** for the first time, and in 2003 moved up a level to run CCI*** alongside the existing CCI*. 2006 was another year of change, as the CCI** was reintroduced to run alongside the three- and one-star competitions, making Blair the only event in Britain to run CCI*, CCI** and CCI*** events concurrently. In 2009, the event took on yet another challenge, running two sections of CCI* due to huge entries and introducing a CIC*** as well – a very busy year indeed!
Blair Castle has a strong history of running European Championships, having hosted the FEI European Junior Championships in 1996, and the FEI European Young Rider Eventing Championships in both 2007 and 2011. Most recently, the event has hosted the senior FEI European Eventing Championship in 2015.
From 2016 we are proud host of the Event Rider Masters series, being the final of the 2018’s edition.
Blair is Scotland’s only three-star three-day event, and one of only 3 such events in Britain (the others being Blenheim and Bramham). Listed below are last years winners at Blair.
2018
C CI*** Tim Price on Mrs There Miller, Jo Preston-Hunt, Philip Hunt & Miss Kate Maitland’s Pats Jester
CIC*** Oliver Townend on Haseldines & Mitchell Fox Group’s  Tregilder
CIC***ERM Chris Burton on The Graf Liberty Syndicate’s Graf Liberty
CCI** Piggy French on Ms Jennifer Saunders’ Cooley Moonson
CCI* James Avery on Mrs Lizzie Edwards’ Seaflower

Showjumping Series

The show jumping got off to a great start with Series 1 on Sunday 26th May, although after a dry spell we were lucky to get some rain so we could hold the event in the sand arena. After a wet morning it brightened up and there were some wonderful rounds and the event was very well attended and enjoyed by all. There were some very worthy winners and lots of rosettes to go round. The Series 2 show jumping event on Sunday 30th June was again very well attended. This time a lovely course was set up in the field, which presented a challenge for some of the horses and their riders, but after some encouragement the bravery of both shone through and they successfully completed the course. The weather was a bit showery, but this didn’t stop some wonderful show jumping displays and the enjoyment of everyone who took part, again there were lots of well earned rosettes. The tuck shop as always is a welcome addition to the events and a very big thank you to all of the helpers who gave their time to make these events possible and make them run so smoothly. We are looking forward to Series 3 of the show jumping events on Sunday 28th July. Our Showjumping Series is always great fun and well attended by members and non-members. We always do our best to make sure you get round the course! We have had 1 competition in the sand school and 2 so far on grass this year.

Cross Country

Our next Cross Country training is with David Gatherer on Wednesday 2nd August at Lawfield, Kilmacolm -which includes some smaller cross country jump options which are perfect for those who are considering giving it a go for the first time. (there are of course heights to suit those experienced xcountry). These will be in groups of 4 or 5 and will be available for all levels. Bookings will be taken and all effort will be made so as those jumping similar height will be in same group. Please ensure that you have a body protector compliant with the new 2018 guidelines if you wish to attend. Anyone who books and arrives with a bodyprotector which does not comply will be charged for the training but will unfortunately not be able to participate. BSEN13158:2018 (See guidelines below).
